Program Description

Although intelligence is often understood to be a government function applied to military and foreign affairs, it actually has a much broader application as the capability to forecast change in time to do something about it. Intelligence education is a dynamic, interdisciplinary field that seeks to familiarize students with the theory and the practice of intelligence. The Intelligence and Crime Analysis is to prepare students pursuing careers in intelligence and law enforcement with the knowledge needed to collect, analyze and act upon information in a variety of contemporary threat environments.

Outcome

Understand the definition of intelligence, its history as a discipline in military and civilian contexts, the structure of the United States Intelligence Community, and the importance of civil liberties and intelligence oversight mechanisms.

Demonstrate an ability to apply key intelligence collection disciplines – particularly Human Intelligence (HUMINT), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT), and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) – to appropriate problem sets.

Demonstrate basic proficiency in structured analytical techniques, as well as effective oral and written communication.

Demonstrate basic proficiency in at least two analytical applications used in intelligence work (e.g., ArcGIS and IBM i2 Analyst’s Notebook).
