Program Description
The Asian Studies minor combines language, historical, and political coursework to provide students with a familiarity with the cultural aspects of Asian societies. Before beginning the minor, students are strongly encouraged to take one or more language courses in their Asian region of choice (at Norwich, at least one full semester of Beginning Chinese). Asian Studies are by nature interdisciplinary studies of non-Western culture(s). Language study is important to understand different cultures as English in almost all cases is not the predominant spoken or written language and the majority of written and archival materials on Asia are not available in English.
