Program Description

The Spanish major offers a wide range of courses designed to build a solid foundation in the language and culture most relevant to the 21st century, to perfect speaking and compositional skills, and to delve into the cultures of Spain, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latinos/as in the U.S., and culminating in a senior capstone course.

Students are encouraged to participate in the program´s on-campus cultural activities such as the Spanish Club and to study abroad for a summer or semester in an approved overseas program to experience language immersion and explore the Hispanic culture and language in real-time.

Goals

The student will achieve advanced language proficiency, expand their cultural understanding of the Hispanic world, develop critical expertise in works of literature, film, art, music, and more, strengthen critical thinking skills, and experience personal transformation. This educational growth will empower students to connect with and impact a diverse world in a meaningful way.
