Program Description
Interdisciplinary Engineering major students engage in an innovative approach to interdisciplinary engineering education that is guided by current challenges of broad human concern that address societal needs. Students attain proficiency in skills necessary to contribute to solving complex and multi-disciplinary problems. The curriculum includes innovative problem-based seminar studio courses that employ modules to develop competencies in engineering fundamentals.
Mission
Prepare students to excel in engineering and related fields. Make clear to students that above all else, the engineering profession is committed to bettering the world. Provide fundamental, laboratory-oriented, hands-on education in engineering and related fields. Foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities and motivate students to consider the societal and environmental consequences of their work. Enable students to be leaders in their profession, community, nation, and the world.
Upon completion of the program, students are awarded the BS in Interdisciplinary Engineering and have a foundational understanding of engineering and science fundamentals.
Goals
The Interdisciplinary Engineering program will produce graduates who, within two to four years after graduation, are able to:
Display competence in applying the skills of engineering practice to conceive and analyze problems and execute solutions guided by practical, ethical, societal, and global awareness.
Be successfully employed as professionals in industrial, commercial, military, government, public works, and/or academic settings while advancing in positions of increasing responsibility or leadership roles.
Be recognized as an effective communicator and collaborator who can work in teams of diverse individuals, technical disciplines and management levels.
Sustain engagement in continuing education and professional development and pursue professional licensure and certification.
