A successful course description should (1) be targeted at students; (2) begin with the purpose or rationale for the course (i.e. Why is this course important?); (3) describe the key topics or content areas that will be covered; (4) describe any innovative activities or experiences that students will use to meet the goals of the course; (5) be no more than 100 words; and (6) use gender neutral language, simple language and sentence structure, and active voice.

Course descriptions should not include references to specific technology that may become outdated or begin with variations of “In this class…”
