Description

Medical Spanish positions future healthcare professionals to improve their patients' sense of trust and to improve the clinical experience and environment. This course will introduce essential medical vocabulary, practical reference information and medical notes from a cross-cultural perspective. Students will develop new critical perspectives on health care for the Hispanic/Latinx communities in the US. Specifically, they will develop medical language skills and cultural competency for healthcare situations to communicate more effectively with Spanish speaking patients and their families and their ways of coping with health issues. It will present everyday situations that students may encounter in work settings such as hospitals, emergency rooms, doctor's offices and clinics dealing with Spanish speaking patients. 3 Lecture hours. Taught in Spanish. Offered: Fall.
