Survey of British Lit II

Description

An overview of British literature from the Romantics to the present in their historical and cultural contexts. Materials may include essays, poetry, non-fiction, fiction, drama, and archival materials, as well as media. This course cultivates awareness of British literature and culture and engages issues of global significance ranging from the function of art and the role of the artist; the construction of personal and public identities; race; class; gender; sexuality; empire; and the rise of technology. EN 226 engages colonial, post-colonial, and Commonwealth authors who intrinsically disrupt Western/European categories culturally, ethnically, linguistically, and geographically. Provides a foundation for upper-level study in the discipline. 3 Lecture hours.
